“Design is about asking questions — discovering a project’s underlying issues, unearthing history, exploring passions, and techniques. But perhaps most importantly, design is about communication. It’s what guides the creative process, lighting the roadmap to a better, more sustainably designed future.”

“Having grown up in Japan and now stepping into New York City, I became infinitely aware of the cultural differences. I did not understand what people meant, what they thought or what they truly felt unless they expressly told me.
People in New York City are naturally curious, inquisitive and have no hesitations in asking who you are and what you are about. Not in Japan. Each one of us is different, so we are being questioned as an individual. I felt that if you don’t have your own identity, you will be swept away.” (Excerpt a quote from CHAPTER 1)

“However, we have learned that importance of accepting nature and learning to live in harmony with it.
My goal was to engage the visitors with this installation. I wanted to create an interaction between them and the mobile.
Their movements with its movements. It’s light and shadow, balancing with the movements of the people in the hall. Accepting and coexisting with the mobile itself. ” (Excerpt a quote from CHAPTER 5)

“Environmental destruction, racial discrimination, the gender gap, and so many other serious issues we face today are caused by a lack of acceptance.
One person may not be able to do much alone, but if we can connect and resonate with others, I believe we can generate a much greater power and a society that strives to embrace diversity.” (Excerpt a quote from CHAPTER 6)

“Marking the return of the biennial exhibition, the great Aurore arena at Euroluce, designed by Formafantasma, will be hosting a packed palimpsest of talks on light and on sustainability, held by some of the most brilliant figures on the contemporary lighting design scene, but that’s by no means all.
The fresh round of Talks at the Salone del Mobile. Milano provides an opportunity for crosscutting insight into how planning, design and architecture can embrace the present and imagine the future, open up new avenues, come up with solutions, and explore the realms of the “possible,” triggering reflection and imagination. The packed program has been curated by Annalisa Rosso.
“Blending poetry, abstraction and the use of innovative technologies, Nao Tamura, a former SaloneSatellite debutante and winner of the 1st SaloneSatellite Award, is one of the most interesting designers on the international scene. Her multidisciplinary approach, environmental awareness and interest in workmanship combine to make her a particularly representative exponent of our day. In Interconnection, in conversation with Felix Burrichter, Creative Director of America’s PIN–UP magazine, informed by her fascination with lighting – whether it be lamps, installations or site-specific projects – she will illustrate the ways in which design is a method of communication and how it steers the creative process, lighting the way towards a better and more sustainably planned future.”
